چکیده

We present the temperature dependence of absorption and reduced scattering coefficients of 1.8% Intralipid measured by frequency-domain photon-migration spectroscopy between 710 and 850 nm. These measurements were made in the physiologically relevant 30 to 40 degrees C temperature range. The temperature coefficients for absorption were consistent during heating and cooling and follow closely other reported results. The change in absorption coefficient at 740 nm suggests that a minimum temperature change of 4 degrees C is observable within the error limits. We found that the reduced scattering coefficient shows a hysteresis with temperature at 740 nm. The temperature coefficient for reduced scattering determined from heating cycle measurements agrees with theory and other measurements within the error limits.

Portable, high-bandwidth frequency-domain photon migration instrument for tissue spectroscopy.

We describe a novel frequency-domain photon migration instrument employing direct diode laser modulation and avalanche photodiode detection, which is capable of noninvasively determinating the optical properties of biological tissues in near real time. An infinite medium diffusion model was used to extract absorption and transport scattering coefficients from 300-kHz to 800-MHz photon-density w...

Low-cost frequency-domain photon migration instrument for tissue spectroscopy, oximetry, and imaging

Britton Chance University of Pennsylvania Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. We described a low-cost, frequency-domain photon migration spectroscopy instrument by using in-phase and quadrature demodulation technique in a 140-MHz homodyne system. A time constant of 1 ms was obtained. A frequency-division multiple...

Influence of the refractive index-mismatch at the boundaries measured in fluorescenceenhanced frequency-domain photon migration imaging.

Over the past decade, developments towards near-infrared (NIR) optical tomography involve the recovery of interior optical maps from boundary measurements using the first principles of light propagation models. The refractive-index mismatch parameter in the boundary condition of the light propagation model, namely the diffusion equation, can significantly impact model prediction of measurements...

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser sources for gigahertz-bandwidth, multiwavelength frequency-domain photon migration.

Frequency-domain photon migration (FDPM) uses modulated laser light to measure the bulk optical properties of turbid media and is increasingly applied for noninvasive functional medical imaging in the near-infrared. Although semiconductor edge-emitting laser diodes have been traditionally used as miniature light sources for this application, we show that vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers ...

Monitoring tumor response during photodynamic therapy using near-infrared photon-migration spectroscopy.

Benzoporphyrin-derivative (BPD)-monoacid-ring A photodynamic therapy (PDT) was performed on subcutaneous tumor implants in a rat ovarian cancer model. In order to assess PDT efficacy the tumor and normal tissue optical properties were measured noninvasively prior to and during PDT using frequency-domain photon migration (FDPM). FDPM data were used to quantify tissue absorption and reduced scatt...
